A Day Filled with Sharing and Caring and "No cookies!"

Our morning was busy right from the start! Some children explored the Daisies and Sunflowers classrooms when they arrived while Scarlett painted at the easel. Jacob played in the kitchen. When we signaled it was time to clean-up with the cymbals, Jacob mimicked us by clanging the lids from the cooking pots along with us while we sang. At Morning Meeting, we sang Hello to each other playing musical instruments.

After snack, we revisited our individual collages using Elmer's glue on cardboard with recycled materials. We noticed that the children were handing each other materials to use on their collage. Nico gave Jacob string and Brandon gave Scarlett a cap.

During free play, we worked together at the table with the pegs. When Nico filled up her mat with pegs, she handed it to me saying, "Look! That's for you! Happy Birthday to you, Jenny!" Then Scarlett said to her, "I am making something for you, too!" While Lili was working she was singing Happy Birthday to Nico! When I asked Harry what he was making, he replied "That's a stand. It's a tower." We definitely had a fun and busy time with these materials.

We marched to We Are the Dinosaurs and swam like goldfish to The Goldfish by The Laurie Berkner Band before lunch. We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and a discussion began. Here is what we talked about:

"The caterpillar has to go the doctor," Nico said.
Why does the caterpillar have to go the doctor? Nadia asked.
"Because the caterpillar is sick," said Harry.
"What will the doctor tell the caterpillar?" Nadia asked.
"Not to eat too much." said  Brandon
"No cookies!" said Lili.

"GORILLA!"

Each child chose what instrument they wanted to play this morning during Circle Time. Max and Hudson played the cymbals. Scarlett and Brandon took turns playing the maraca and the jingle bells. I asked the children what book the would like me to read. "GORILLA!" Hudson shouted, so we read Little Gorilla by Ruth Bornstein. The children are showing interest in the animals and the gorilla growing in the story as well.

We worked on our individual collage using Elmer's glue, cardboard, and recycled materials. Then went for a walk around the block. When we returned the children played in the sandbox. Hudson and Max worked on their self-portraits. After lunch, we sang Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and Baa Baa Black Sheep. Then it was time to sing Goodbye.

Musical Monday with Evan!

We began our day singing "Good Morning to You" to friends and teachers. Next, we read Little Gorilla by Ruth Bornstein. Then we marched to We Are the Dinosaurs by The Laurie Berkener Band.

We explored painting with Elmer's glue with brushes and squeezing glue bottles by creating our own individual collages using cardboard and recycled materials.

Today we met Evan our Music teacher for the first time! We sang Old McDonald Had A Farm and he taught us a new version of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Then he gave each friend a turn to play on his flute. We cannot wait to have Music with Evan again next week!

"Look up! Look Up In the Sky..."

We began our day singing the story about The Itsy Bitsy Spider as told and illustrated by Iza Trapani on the rug and dancing to The Goldfishby The Laurie Berkner Band. While the children ate snack, Jenny read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, and Little Gorilla by Ruth Bornstein.

During Free Play, we played in the sand box and with the bubbles, babies, and ducks in the water table. The children continued to work on their friendship collage. Harry shared his cars with the class and we raced them on the "road"  map that Jenny made in the block area. As they were playing with Nadia,  the sunlight came in through the window. Brandon, Nico, and Lili noticed that their fingers make shadows. Brandon pointed to the window noticing that the sunlight was coming in and said, " Look up!" Sun! There's a tree!" Then Harry looked up at the window and said, " Look up in the sky! There is no rain!" (Stay Tuned For Video!)

What a Busy Day!

Today began with Max and Jenny dancing to We Are the Dinosaurs by The Laurie Berkner Band. Max went over to the train table where Hudson was playing. Hudson welcomed Max to join him by saying, " I'm playing with trains, guys!".  We had a VERY musical Circle Time playing our instruments as we greeted each other and sang lots of songs! Jenny read the book Little Gorilla by Ruth Bornstein on the rug. The children requested that I read it again by saying "Again! Again!"

The Sunflowers and Daisies invited us to their classrooms to teach them how to make glue by mixing flour and water. It was so messy but so much fun! We had so much fun exploring their classroom when we were done!

Next, we went for a walk and explored the neighborhood. "Excavator moving! Moving fast!" Max shared with me as we passed the truck on our walk.

We worked on our collaborative Dot Dot painting when we returned.  Brandon worked on his self-portrait. Then we wrapped up our morning digging in the sandbox together. What a busy day we had!

"The People Go up and Down..."

We began our morning singing Hello, Hello, Hello and How Are you? Then we listened to and sang along to We Are the Dinosaurs by The Laurie Berkner Band softly on the rug. We read and sang The Wheels on the Bus. Harry helped me read the story by telling me that "the people go up and down" not "hop on and off". At Free Play, we explored the sandbox, painted with watercolor, worked with play dough, and painted with dot dot paints together on the floor.

A Few Moments of Fascination...

We began our morning singing Hello, Hello and How Are You?There are 7 Days in a Week, and Today is Tuesday All Day Long while playing cymbals. During Snack, we read Pete The Cat I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin and David Smells by David Shannon.

We went for a walk around the neighborhood, as we admired the beautiful weather. "Pickup truck" , "Excavator," "Boom", "A big truck!" are some of the comments I heard from the children as we walked. We noticed the fountain when we were passing the park on Greenwich and 13th Street. We looked at the fountain for a few moments with fascination.  Then Jenny held on to Max's and Hudson's hands, Grandpa Barys held on to Brandon's hand, and Nadia held on to Scarlett's. We ran around the fountain in opposite directions waving to each other as we passed by.

When we returned from our walk, the children made glue by mixing flour, water, and yellow paint together. Next, the children explored the glue and we continued working on our collaborative collage. Scarlett worked on her first self-portrait. Then, we wrapped up the morning digging in the sandbox. We are looking forward to another fun day tomorrow!
