Exploring Numbers and Patterns

At Morning Meeting, we sang 5 Green and Speckled Frogs using the frogs and subtracting numbers on the erase as we sang. The children were excited that they knew numbers when we wrote them down. Then we had so much fun taking turns guessing the letters as we looked at the names of our friends. After meeting, we decorated cards and planted special gifts to give to our mothers' for  Mother's Day.

After Yoga with Lakshmi, we worked on our self-portraits and had fun making patterns. Then we played together in the block area. Before lunch, we read The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We are very excited to act out this story Monday!

"Hi Max! I'm Calling You"

Scarlett ran into this morning so excited to share a very special leaf that she found on the way to school. We had Morning Meeting in the Sunflowers classroom with the Daisies' and the Sunflowers' class. We made a rainstorm using our hands and feet. Next we sang 5 Green and Speckled Frogs subtracting one number on the erase board as they jumped into the pond

After Dance with Elizabeth, we read The Museum by Susan Verde and Miffy the Artist by Dick Bruna. When we finished reading, Brandon and Max painted collaboratively together using acrylic paint on canvas. Scarlett made an amazing piece of art by painting her leaf onto canvas using purple acrylic paint. Hudson drew on canvas using a black marker. He wrote the letter "A" and also made a bassoon.

After Project Work, Scarlett dressed up with her baby and took the bus to work. Max cooked Hudson breakfast in the kitchen while Brandon worked very hard on the alphabet puzzle. During lunch, we read The Cat In the Hat by Dr. Seuss.

Watercolor Painting at Jackson Square Park

At Morning Meeting, we began to talk about the Art Show by reading The Museum. Harry brought his harmonica to school and he played along while we sang I've Been Working On the Railroad. Then we walked to the park, looked at the trees, and flowers. Once the children were settled, they began to paint. Brandon painted a beautiful green tree.

When we arrived back at school, we had French. Jamie and Jacob worked on their April self-portraits while Brandon, Lili, Nico, Scarlett, and Harry began to work on our collage using material pieces.

"Whoops There Goes Another Rubber Tree..."

During Snack, we read When I Grow Up by Leonid Gore. After snack, we joined the Sunflowers and Daisies classes for Morning Meeting where we looked at the onion roots growing in the root viewer. Then it was off to the park where we painted with watercolors. Brandon painted "a blue rainbow" while Scarlett painted a birthday present for her "Papa". When we were finished painting, Jenny blew bubbles and the children chased them.

When we returned back to school, we played for a short time with the blocks. We couldn't believe how quickly the day went as we sat down for lunch and sang High Hopes by Frank Sinatra.

Tea Party Day!

Our Fancy Tea Party Day began with a puppet show. Then we had a tea party snack at Jackson Square Park where we were told the story of a little old who thought he can move a rubber plant and sang "High Hopes" by Frank Sinatra. Then we told the story of The Three Little Pigs. Before we returned back to school for Yoga, we noticed the water in the water fountain.

After Yoga with Lakshmi, we made our own puppets using paper bags, feathers, pipe cleaners, and buttons. We also made a beautiful birthday card for Ms. Erica.  Then we had a tea party with the puppets as we ate croissants and drank tea (water) while we listened to stories. We finished our morning learning how to ballroom dance with our partners. (please see videos below) What a fancy day!

Pajama Day!

Everyone got comfy and cozy for pajama day today. The children curled up together to read books on the rug in the Sunflower's room. Jenny also offered to give lavender lotion arm massages.

We sang some lullabies at morning meeting and then read The Napping HouseGoodnight Moon and In the Night Kitchen. As the children listened to the stories, they had breakfast in bed enjoying the pancakes that Ashley brought in. They couldn't get enough!

After Dance with Elizabeth, Hudson and Max helped Rebecca make "counting sheep." After they made a sheep, the children wrote the numbers 1-7 sequentially and posted their sheep above our meeting rug. Max and Hudson also worked together to cook in the kitchen area and read books while Brandon was busy painting with watercolor and playing with the sand in the Daisy's classroom.

The Sunflowers and Sweet Peas combined for show and tell (Ava was very excited to call on Brandon for comments and questions) and then read Goodnight Baby Bear. What a relaxing and fun day!
