"I need something to stick to this..."

We began our morning playing in the sandbox and with play dough. We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar  by Eric Carle and we began to talk about what we want to be for Halloween. The children pointed out what type of food they would like to be based on the story. Here is what they said:

"Cupcake" - Hudson
"Lollipop" - Scarlett
"Cherry pie" - Max
"Ice cream cone" - Brandon

Next, we finished working on our individual collages. While the children were working , we noticed that they were very interested in the squeezing the glue bottle. We mixed paint in with the glue so that they could continue to explore and experiment these materials. "I need something to stick to this," Scarlett said as she picked up some recycled materials to add. "YUCKY!" exclaimed Brandon. We ended our day playing instruments to Do It Again by The Beach Boys during our Goodbye Meeting.

Musical Monday!

As you know, it has recently become our routine that we begin our Morning Meeting by playing instruments while listening to Octopus' Garden by The Beatles so this is how we began our day. Next, we sang Hello, Hello How Are You? to each friend on the telephone.

While we were eating snack, we had a very nice discussion about what we did over the weekend. Harry started the conversation by saying "I went to a farm to pick pumpkins and I went on a tractor ride!"

"I went to a pumpkin farm. Moo and horsey. There were a lot of animals!" Lili added.

"I went to a show. There were a lot of animals in the show." said Nico

"I hung out with Mommy and Daddy." Scarlett said.

"Home" Jamie said with a smile.

"Yeah, I took a car." Brandon said.

"I played on telephone!" Jacob added.

We revisited our individual collages using Elmer's glue and recycled materials. We had Music with Evan today. Each child had a turn to play on his "Grandma and Grandpa" drum. Jamie got up and danced when Evan sang Shake, Shake, Shake while he played on his guitar

Friday Fun!

We began our morning listening to Octopus' Garden by The Beatles and playing along with musical instruments. We greeted our friends by singing The Hello Song on the telephone and then sang Who's At Buckle My Shoe Today? The children requested that we march to We Are the Dinosaurs by The Laurie Berkner Band and so we did!

We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Then we had Free Play. Harry and Jamie worked on their self-portraits, while the other children took care of the babies.  We worked more on our individual collages. We played a game of Pass the Ball  and we sang Around and Around to each other. May you all have a wonderful weekend!

"What do you want to call your piece of work?" .... "ME!"

We started off our morning playing instruments to Octopus' Garden by The Beatles and we sang Hello to each other on the telephone. Then we had our first dance class with Elizabeth. The children had so much fun marching, stretching, and moving their bodies along with her!

We worked more on our individual collages. Here are some comments we heard from the children while they working:

"I should put a triangle here." said Hudson
"I am making a truck."said Scarlett.
"Squeezimg the glue"  said Max.
"Lots of pieces stick." said Brandon.
Then we asked Hudson, "What do you want to call your piece of work?" "ME!"  he said with pride.

We took advantage of the beautiful day by drawing with chalk outside the school. We read and sang The Wheels On the Bus by Maryann Kovalski and sang Baa Baa Black Sheep. Hudson played for us on the cooking drum set while Brandon played the cymbals with the pot lids. It certainly was a fun day!

A Day Filled with Sharing and Caring and "No cookies!"

Our morning was busy right from the start! Some children explored the Daisies and Sunflowers classrooms when they arrived while Scarlett painted at the easel. Jacob played in the kitchen. When we signaled it was time to clean-up with the cymbals, Jacob mimicked us by clanging the lids from the cooking pots along with us while we sang. At Morning Meeting, we sang Hello to each other playing musical instruments.

After snack, we revisited our individual collages using Elmer's glue on cardboard with recycled materials. We noticed that the children were handing each other materials to use on their collage. Nico gave Jacob string and Brandon gave Scarlett a cap.

During free play, we worked together at the table with the pegs. When Nico filled up her mat with pegs, she handed it to me saying, "Look! That's for you! Happy Birthday to you, Jenny!" Then Scarlett said to her, "I am making something for you, too!" While Lili was working she was singing Happy Birthday to Nico! When I asked Harry what he was making, he replied "That's a stand. It's a tower." We definitely had a fun and busy time with these materials.

We marched to We Are the Dinosaurs and swam like goldfish to The Goldfish by The Laurie Berkner Band before lunch. We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and a discussion began. Here is what we talked about:

"The caterpillar has to go the doctor," Nico said.
Why does the caterpillar have to go the doctor? Nadia asked.
"Because the caterpillar is sick," said Harry.
"What will the doctor tell the caterpillar?" Nadia asked.
"Not to eat too much." said  Brandon
"No cookies!" said Lili.
